Sports Injuries

Sport Injuries

Encountering injuries is common when participating in any physical and rigorous activity, such as sports. Improper training procedures, poor warm-up, and cool-down sessions, and inadequate conditioning techniques, or a combination of those are some of the reasons why sports injuries happen. On top of those things, overuse of muscles and fatigue contribute to injuries and sports-related accidents. We also shouldn’t overlook dehydration and other psychological and psychosocial considerations that put professional athletes and athletic individuals at risk for injuries.
The reality is every type of sport poses a risk of injury or accident for the athlete. Fortunately, there’s physical therapy for sports injuries and accidents. Coping and managing sports-related injuries will often require physical therapy. This type of treatment approach allows patients to recover by rebuilding their strength, balance, movement, and flexibility following a sports injury or accident.

pre & post operative care

Pre & Post Operative Care

Physical therapists are healthcare professionals who are trained to help patients regain their strength, mobility, and independence after a debilitating injury, accident, or surgery. In order to accomplish this goal, physical therapists often help patients undertake special exercises, learn stretches and techniques, and utilize specialized equipment to perform day-to-day tasks.
They have the required training to recognize areas of weakness in the human body and to correct them without excessive pain. Because of this, they understand the impact of surgery on the human body and can craft a program to accelerate recovery. While some physical therapists focus their efforts on a single part or region of the body, others provide a wide variety of services.
There are multiple, well-documented benefits associated with receiving high-quality physical therapy before  and after a major surgery.

knisio taping

Kinesio Taping

Kinesiology taping is a therapeutic option that your physical therapist may use if you’ve had an injury or illness that has caused problems with your mobility and motor function. It involves placing strips of special tape on your body in specific directions to help improve your mobility and support your joints, muscles, and tendons.
Kinesio taping helps to reset the circuitry in the affected part of your body by correcting any faulty interactions between the skin and the muscles, joints, and tendons below. This results in increased muscle strength and activity. Kinesio taping also works by blocking any pain receptors that are sent to your brain. If these painful messages are not received, the muscles in the affected area will loosen and the likelihood of spasms will decrease significantly. Pain constricts the affected area, but if the pain is removed, there will suddenly be more freedom for blood flow and movement.

IASTM (Blades)

IASTM (blades)

IASTM is one method that we can can use to help increase your healing and recovery. It is a non-invasive, hands-on technique that allows your physical therapist to address areas of pain or areas of tightness in the body that cannot be reached through other manual therapies alone. IASTM targets the fascia, which is a complicated system made up mostly of tightly connected collagen fibers that weaves itself throughout your entire body. Specially designed instruments made of stainless steel are used in IASTM to work on the fascia.

Benefits of IASTM
Talk to Dr. Raich about the many benefits of IASTM, including:

cupping therapy

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is one of the oldest and most effective method of releasing the toxins from body tissue and organs. It is also known as vacuum cupping, hijama cupping, horn treatment etc. It is a practice in which the therapist puts special cups on the skin to create suction. This causes the tissue beneath the cup to be drawn up and swell causing increase in blood flow to affected area. Enhanced blood flow under the cups draws impurities and toxins away from the nearby tissues and organs towards the surface for elimination.

Benefits:

  • Release scar tissue and fascial adhesions
  • Reduce painful trigger points
  • Improve circulation, blood and lymph circulation
  • Relieve pain
  • Promote mobility and range of motion
  • Improves mature scars
  • Decrease toxins
